Tornado Warnings In Iowa; Tornado Outbreak Repeat?; Astronomy Picture Reminiscent Of Broadcast Day’s End; “It” Part II

Tornado warnings were issued tonight in northeastern Iowa. The latest radar loop of the region from National Weather Service and Intellicast radar summary show plenty of activity. See the latest warnings by map and in a text list. Weather warning displays are also now in the National/International page (under the right-column ad and at the bottom of the page). Many other resources are in the Midwest city pages

Expert says tornado outbreak could happen again

Wasn’t today’s Astronomy Picture of the Day [obafgkm_noao.jpg] once accompanied by an annoying high-pitched tone, just after the National Anthem was played at around 1 a.m. on Channel 61?

Closing out today’s entry, I will follow up on the mystery entry at the end of yesterday’s post: “It” was going to be here today, but “it” will have to wait until tomorrow. Rest assured, “it” will be on this Web site soon!

Happy Easter!; ‘Passion’ Tops Weekend; Western Drought Worsening; 5-Car Pileup In Houston Weather-Related

Happy Easter! I hope you had a good day, though chances are it was a little colder or wetter than you’d hoped for. Here in Fort Worth, Texas, a cold wind from the north and a high in the 50s translated to a colder-than-usual Easter weekend…

It was another amazing weekend for Mel Gibson’s “Passion of The Christ,” now at an estimated U.S. gross of $354 million, the eighth, and soon to be seventh, biggest grossing domestic film of all time.

Sirens Blare, Though Nothing Sighted; Weather Warnings Box Now In National/Int’l Page

Sirens in north Texas city sound: ‘We had a little weather excitement today’. Meanwhile, about 100 miles away, a test of a new outdoor warning system for Fort Worth finds that not all of the city’s 132 sirens worked

I’ve just added a new feature to the National/International page: a weather warning box that shows counties across the U.S. which are currently under a weather warning. Clicking into a county opens a new window and details of the warning are inside. It is in the far right column under the skyscraper ad. This feature replaces the Intellicast national radar thumbnail, which was removed since it was launching pop-up ads. I am looking into a good replacement for this…

Cyber Paperboy David Akerley Found Dead; Stormy N. Texas; Severe Weather In Houston Area; Flood Death Toll 34 In Mexico

From Mike Wendland’s Web log: The online world will be saddened to know of the sudden death of David Akerley, the creator of the popular news and information side known as The Cyber Paperboy. Akerley was recently featured on NBC Nightly News as a cyber-blogger. I only knew David through e-mail conversations, but he was incredibly kind and will be greatly missed here and throughout the blogging and Internet world.

Severe weather is moving across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex this evening, with Wise, Parker, Tarrant and Denton counties placed under severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the evening. We had some small hail in far north Fort Worth (nickel-size), but about 15 miles to the northwest, rotation that indicated a tornado was detected by radar in northeastern Wise County. I snapped some pictures of the storm from here and will post them by tomorrow. Here’s a great radar loop of the area from the National Weather Service. Many additional radars and webcams are in the Dallas-Fort Worth page.
