Weather Idol: Scottish Man Wins Contest Dubbed ‘Weather Idol,’ Lands Job On L.A. TV Station. Clay Aiken fans are calling for a recount… (I know, that was lame)

Snow Story: Dusting Of Snow Leads To 180-Plus Wrecks: Central Indiana got only a dusting of snow late Tuesday night, but the aftermath led to treacherous driving conditions. This story reminds me of the first time I left the road. It was 1989, I was 16, newly licensed, and driving my parents’ 1984 Dodge Omni on one of those highway on-ramps that circle around for about a mile. Thanks to a light dusting of snow and probably some ice on the ramp, I was no longer on it. I slid backwards down a (thankfully not too steep, but steep enough) hill and ended up having to accelerate up the hill and immediately slow down to avoid going down the other side. Fortunately, I was back on the ramp after a few attempts.

More slippery roads in Upper Michigan, where police have been busy responding to dozens of mishaps

Update: Philippines: 1,000 Dead Or Missing after flash floods and mudslides struck three Philippine coastal towns

Otto Outta Here: Tropical Storm Otto Begins To Disappear: Storm formed on the last day of hurricane season, wasn’t a threat to land

Quake: Strong Earthquake Shakes Trinidad, Damaging Several Homes Outside Capital

Also, a magnitude 2.2 quake (minor) struck just outside of Richmond, VA overnight. (Map here)

I wonder if former co-worker Ginny Bonner and her family, located near the community of Short Pump, VA, felt this. I just might investigate and post the result in a future entry…

A list of current earthquakes above 2.5M is near the bottom of the column to the left. Other earthquake resources are in the right column of our National/International page

Top 5 WXnation.com city weather and webcam pages visited on Thursday (I see Upper Michigan tops the list today): 1. Marquette 2. New York City 3. Minneapolis/St. Paul 4. Duluth 5. Los Angeles … See the top 20 so far this month in the center column of our home page.
