WXnation.com’s Main Site Entering Its 4th Year Online!: WXnation.com came online three years ago this weekend. An archived version of this Web site as it appeared in its infancy is available (From March 2002; opens a new window), and more details on its first days
Ironically, I started this site while I was just ending a huge project of compiling old videotapes onto new VHS tapes, and for the first time since then, I’ve dragged those tapes out since I just purchased a DVD recorder.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to visit these pages. You have helped to bring new features to the site, including this blog, the live satellite/radar from CustomWeather on the home page, and top webcams by popularity and location.

The last image shows the obstacle course we saw as we left the KXAS-TV studios after some pothole repairs. The way the orange cones were arranged like bowling pins, I wasn’t sure whether to drive around them or go for a strike… (Images link to large versions in new windows):

With toll rising, California braces for more rain: Slides, avalanches, traffic accidents claim at least 9 lives … A total of 33.09 inches of rain has fallen in Los Angeles since July 1, when California begins its yearly rainfall measurements. The record, 38.18 inches, was set in 1883-1884. Resources are in yesterday’s entry below…
National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for NW San Diego County
I love coming across words that I’ve never seen before, such as the following taken from Storm socks mid-Michigan with a foot of snow: “The zzizszszsz! of spinning tires, the ker-chank! of snow shovels, the gutsy growl of massive snowplows, the depressing whhoompfff! greeting drivers who didn’t quite have the momentum to blast through the snow at the ends of driveways all were common sounds.”
A lovely way to describe “rain, hail, lightning, and straight-line winds, leaving behind a lot of damage”: A rainbow of severe weather in Alabama
Iran earthquake death toll at least 420
