Hurricane Rita Passes South Of Florida Keys, May Hit Texas As Major Hurricane By Friday: The eye of Category 2 Hurricane Rita, currently with 105 mph winds, moved just south of the Florida Keys this afternoon. Unfortunately, the Texas coast could be hit by a devastating Category 4 Hurricane Rita by Friday. The National Hurricane Center‘s expected 5-day track, shows New Orleans is probably not in the path of this soon-to-be major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.
