Storm To Bring Rain, Sleet, Snow To The Northeast On Monday: AccuWeather.com is forecasting as much as 3-6 inches of snow will fall across parts of PA, upstate NY and northern New England | Messy commute for Boston Monday | Resources: NWS watches/warnings map, Radar loop and snow forecast loop (Select “Snow Amount” in the pull-down menu) | Weather and webcams for Mass., NH, Vermont, Connecticut, R.I., and all other cities

Drought-Buster In Texas? No, But Rain Helps: Sunday’s official rainfall total at DFW Airport was .66 inches by 7 p.m., the most in one day since Oct. 31 [Story and more rain totals] … Amazingly, I received more rain here in north Fort Worth than DFW Airport did, 1.11 inches. It’s more rain than has fallen here between Sept. 16, 2005, and Jan. 21, and is the largest one-day rain total in this part of N. FW since last spring! | Other stories: East Texas rain doesn’t wash away burn bans | Rain brings relief for Arkansas … There’s another chance for rain in the S. Central Plains Thursday.

It seems that the great tap in the sky was turned on for North Texas just as it was shut off for Olympia, Washington … One place that still needs rain: El Paso on Day 100 of no rain

Mild weather pushes Vt. lake to record level

Nashville has warmest January since 1950

Katrina Update: State officials compare damage and relief aid with Mississippi

World Weather: East Africa drought spurs food shortage

Quake Wire: Earthquake center receives $1.2 million: The money will fund a new program to study earthquake predictability | Huge tsunami could hit north Japan in quake scenario

On My TV, Radio Last Night: “It Could Happen Tomorrow” aired it’s second episode, this one about an F5 tornado twisting through downtown Dallas. Some good reminders were in the mix, including a warning against parking under highway overpasses and taking shelter in a low-level bathroom. And Art Bell of “Coast To Coast AM” returned to the airwaves for the first time since his wife died of asthma at the age of 47. Last night’s show reminded me how important radio continues to be … and how much sleep Art has made me lose.

Redesign There: CapitalWeather.com has gone live with a redesign, adding many new features that I like!

Redesign Here: Speaking of redesigns, you may have noticed some changes to this site: A new logo (featuring a lightning strike I captured in DFW last summer), new header background, and the site’s navigation moved back to the left column. It’s the largest change to the site since Jan. 2004. I hope you find it an improvement, and promise I’ll leave things alone for a while.

One of the new features, in the right column, is an entry from “One Year Ago”: Today’s is Johnny’s farewell

Top 5 WXnation.com city weather and webcam pages visited on Sunday: 1. Dallas/Fort Worth 2. Houston 3. New Orleans 4. Denver 5. Vancouver … and on Saturday: 1. Chicago 2. Toronto 3. Dallas/Fort Worth 4. Vancouver 5. New York City … See the top 20 so far this month in the center column of our home page.

  1. Geoff Scott says:

Thank GAWD Art chose the return to radio given the “other options” he spoke of. What a relief. What honesty and courage he has, a true radio legend. Ramona will truly be missed as she was the “silent partner” of the biggest voice in radio. Yet we all knew her so well, didnt we? Her spirit radiated through the airwaves with him.

  2. Agreed, Geoff. He’s certainly a radio legend, and Ramona’s absense is being felt by many — the show won’t be the same. What a strange moment that was when a caller had police show up at Art’s home over worries he might be too depressed, thus setting off his alarm while on air. On an uplifting note, he announced he’ll be taking over Saturday nights again making it Art on Sat/Sun.
