Category 3 Katrina spurs debate over accuracy of hurricane scale

The Weather Channel’s “Storm Stories” Thursday at 8pm ET looks at Tropical Storm Allison, which flooded the Houston area 5 years ago, dumping more than 37 inches of rain, causing an estimated $4.88 billion in damages and killing 22.

Off-Topic/ Birth Announcement: Why no WXnation Wire entry for the much-hyped 6-06-06 date? It’s not superstition, nor conspiracy — but time did play a major role… It turns out I became a dad for the first time on Monday night (yep, we avoided 6-06-06 by only a few hours). As a result, today’s post is much shorter, and includes this photo snapped minutes after Logan Young was born (image links to a larger version in a new window):

Now, back to the new world of parenthood (and a big thanks and love to Logan’s mommy for handling all of this so well!). I’ll be back to full speed on this “blog” in about 18 years…
