New Radar In Okla. May Improve Tornado Forecasting: New radar aims to improve 75 percent false-alarm rate on tornadoes | More info from The Chickasha Express-Star … Oklahoma City’s KFOR-TV was the first in the U.S. to purchase a million-watt radar, four times more powerful than many.

Room For Everyone?: That proposed National Weather Service bill story has made it onto USAToday.com: Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) is pushing a bill that some say would restrict information on the National Weather Service’s Web site. As I stated earlier in this blog, I turn to the NWS first when severe weather is headed my way, and it would be a shame if, one day, NWS radar images and 7-day forecast pages were gone. It doesn’t keep me from regularly visiting the other sites: During severe weather, NWS Java loops of radar images take longer and longer to load. Even when all is loading well, I frequently visit my local NBC affiliate KXAS-TV, Wunderground, Intellicast, AccuWeather and, yes, Weather.com. Each have unique displays, such as the Wunderground Storm Tracks or Intellicast Radar Summary, which show large cells’ heights and projected movements (both of these are included in the city pages of this Web site). I believe that there’s room for everyone (including this site :) What do you think?
