Dennis intensifies over Gulf of Mexico; Gulf Coast prepares for possibility of first Category 4 hurricane to hit U.S. in July
Intensifying In The Gulf: Hurricane Dennis continues to intensify as it nears the U.S. Gulf Coast. As of the 10 p.m. CDT update, it’s a strong Category 3 hurricane with 125 mph maximum sustained winds. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and tornadoes are expected across much of Florida, southern Alabama and southern Georgia. By Sunday evening, Dennis is expected to hit as a Category 4 hurricane somewhere between the Louisiana-Mississippi state line and Panama City, Florida, with damaging winds and flooding. Mobile, Alabama is currently in the center of the possible path.
