Tropical Storm Wilma Forms, Ties Record For Most Storms In Atlantic Season: Wilma forms in Caribbean: Long-term forecasts show the storm heading into the Gulf of Mexico and toward Florida or the northern Gulf Coast by the weekend. Forecasters say it could become a major hurricane as high water temperatures are favorable for development. From NOAA’s discussion:

ONLY POSSIBLE LAND INTERACTION WITH THE NORTHEASTERN YUCATAN PRECLUDES FORECASTING WILMA TO BECOME A MAJOR HURRICANE BY 120 HOURS.
