Tornado-less May in Oklahoma for first time since records began; No U.S. tornado deaths in April, May; Tornadoes in Wyoming, Manitoba?; WeatherBug building network of backyard reporters; New NOAA satellite to track storms like no other before it; Tennessee quake; That’s hot

Tornado-less May In Tornado Alley-Central: When one thinks of summer weather in Florida, hurricanes might come to mind. And May in Oklahoma: tornadoes. Yet this year, not a single tornado was reported in Oklahoma — a first for the Sooner State for the month of May and any month since official records began in 1950, according to NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla. … I live about 75 miles south of the Oklahoma border, and many here in North Texas are wondering where the severe weather was in May. One answer is in this NOAA story

No U.S. Tornado Deaths In April, May: Another amazing story: No one in the United States died in a tornado in April or May, normally two of the three busiest months for twisters. From USAToday.com’s story Tornado numbers far below normal in ’05:

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center reported Wednesday that only 129 tornadoes struck the USA last month. There were more than 500 in May both last year and in 2003.

Tornadoes in Wyoming? Yep!

Likely tornado in Manitoba

WeatherBug Building Network Of Backyard Reporters: WeatherBug lets anyone forecast from back yardblog set up for the backyard reporters. You can get info on a wireless personal weather station that will send data from your backyard to WeatherBug here (a review will be posted in this blog in the coming days…)

New NOAA satellite to track storms like no other before it
